I’ve been exited for the whale for a bit, but I didn’t really care that much. My friends were way more exited than me, all I’ve cared about for a while was puss in boots. But still was looking forward to it and saw it opening weekend. Honestly, it has been a bit since I watched a film that left me that speechless.
First off Brendan Fraser was incredible. I really hope he wins best actor because he deserves it. Knowing some of the stuff he’s been through, this is the best comeback film ever as it’s probably his best role. The acting was incredibly moving.
I love films like this so much, all set in his house and really character focused, with incredible acting and serious topics. Probably the best film about obesity ever and also a generally good film about mental health.
To give you an idea of how emotional this is, I find it slightly harder to cry at the cinema than in the comfort of my own home but I had tears rolling down my face through the final act and the ending really got to me. I turned to my friend after the film finished and all 3 of us were a mess. One of the people I watched it with said
“A film has never made me feel that much”
The whole cinema were crying.
A sign of a good film and a good ending for me is when the credits roll I sit there in silence staring at the credits as I try and process what I just watched. Or sometimes I let out a little laugh at how good it was.
My second favourite film of 2022.
Loved every single character and every single actors performances. I love how much feeling you got from them. Sometimes Brendan Fraser would give a look there’d be so much emotion behind it.
Really just the exact kind of film I like to watch and the exact kind of film I want to make. Very emotional and character focused. Loved the aspect ratio.
The essay, the bucket of chicken, the laptop. So many things I can name that I loved about this. So glad I saw it at the cinema.
Well done Brendan and welcome back.
