I don’t think I’ve ever watched the credits after finishing a film on netflix especially when it’s just black but I love Pearl jam. So this is probably my fourth time watching this film, I don’t think it’s some kind of masterpiece or anything but I love it. I liked all the characters, even his annoying girlfriend who was kind of terrible, I really don’t have anything to critique about this film, it’s emotional, Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anna Kendrick (probably a mistake in one of those names somewhere) were all great, really likeable characters. I think I like this film coz it freaks me out but it’s done so well, cancer is terrifying and this film shows the main character and the people in his life dealing with the fact he may die which is also fucking terrifying even though it happens to everyone. We see his over protective mother deal with her worst nightmare, his funny friend trying to pretend everything’s fine even though he might lose his best friend, and even his girlfriend who doesn’t really love him deal with her own issues which are less important because she’s not a good person. Each scene felt really meaningful from the very beginning as we see him running showing he’s healthy and stopping at a light showing how cautious he is. A few scenes which were really impactful for me where when he is in the car screaming as he knows it might be his last day alive, I thought the acting was amazing as you could really feel the characters pain. Also the scene where he’s going into surgery and is about to be put under anaesthetic as he realises this could be the last time he ever goes to sleep, I found this scary and emotional even though I’ve watched the film enough times to know he’ll be fine. I also wanna say this is the film that’s made me love Anna Kendrick even though I’m not a fan of lots of her films, I love her character in this. I think his parents were very interesting, his dad dealing with the fact his son who he can barely remember might die, and when we find out his mum joined a cancer support group I thought that was a really nice moment though I would have liked to see even more of them as though they were a big part of the film as he was ignoring her calls we didn’t see much of them until the end, which did end up being nice character development for him but I still would have liked to see more of his mums perspective. I love this film and it helps me deal with my massive fear of hospitals, the first time I watched this I had to close my eyes for some scenes but now I can get through it fine and it just makes the film even more emotional for me and it makes me feel a little better when I’m down which is an amazing thing to find in a film. I have a lot more I can say about this film but it’s 3:43 right now so I better wrap this up. Even though I love it I have to rank this film based on how good I think it is as a film compared to films like Scott Pilgrim, Fight Club, Shawshank Redemption and Punch Drunk Love but after writing this review and finding nothing bad to say about it I’m gonna give it an .... 8.6/10
