Was kinda nervous going in to this as it was like I was waiting to find out if my favourite anime director is actually a good director and if he could ever make anything as good as your name again. Obviously this wasn’t as good as your name, but I think it might be his second best, really enjoyed it and so glad I got the chance to see it at the cinema.
Shinkai never misses with the soundtracks, loved it. And this film has a very strong female protagonist which weathering with you was heavily lacking. The story seemed a bit simple, but there were some funny moments with the cat and the chair, I think it all comes together at the end really nicely making it overall a much better film, but throughout most of the film I did think the plot didn’t have enough to it and it felt a little plain and boring. Though the ending was so good it makes up for it. It had me crying a little. Poor daijin, I wish the guy died instead of the cat. I do think it was a little forced how this girl was literally willing to give her life for a guy she didn’t actually know that well, but it was a cute story and as always the animation is incredible.
