Watched an actual horror film this time, though until the last 10 minutes it felt less like a horror than the thriller I watched yesterday. I actually didn’t mind this one, the acting wasn’t great except from the killers monologue in the last scene and the main kid was on. I didn’t really like most of this, it was ok, don’t really have anything against it, it just didn’t stand out much as a film as there was nothing special about it, it would have been really forgettable if not for the ending.
I don’t usually like spoiling films in my reviews but the ending is the only thing I wanna talk about as it was the only part I like so just gonna plonk a spoiler warning here.
I was kinda convinced the girl was the killer so I did look a bit dumb, I thought it was too obvious for the guy they suspected to be the killer and she kept tryna jump scare us but nah it was the guy they suspected, a bit boring but ok. The scene was fine, just horror chase scene, whatever, but a cool murder of one of the kids and it was a little creepy which I guess is quite a good thing for a horror film (this is genuinely like my first one). The thing I liked about it, which was the main stand out of the whole film, was the monologue from the villain, such good acting, something he hasn’t shown us really at all so far so it was surprising. The decision to let the kid live, as he wanted him to be living in constant fear and paranoia of his promised return, was really cool. I feel like films always end with one of them winning, I’ve never seen it just end with the serial killer just letting the kid go promising he’ll be back, which is something I found really interesting.
Rest of the film was just fine but the way they ended it kinda impressed me.
