I kinda knew nothing about Princess Diana. I knew she was a very interesting person and wanted to know more about her which is one of the reasons I went to see this film, I also knew she died in a car crash which is another reason I want to see this film, I wanted a depressing ending ( spoiler alert she doesn’t die in the film). But yeah before I watched this I thought the queen was William and Harry’s mum.
The acting in this is really good, Kristen Stewart did a fantastic job as Princess Diana, not only was her acting great but her character was incredibly interesting and that was probably the main reason that I liked this film way more than I expected. Kristen was great and Diana was great. I liked the tone of this film, I went to film school but I’m not entirely sure what that word means, yet I know I loved the tone of this film. The soundtrack was really good, it made simple scenes of Diana sitting at the table eating with her family incredibly intense. The set design was pretty good and it was cool seeing a film about the royals. It was a little boring at times since not much was actually happening, but I really enjoyed it. It came out at cinemas yesterday and I’m glad I got a chance to see it so early, I didn’t care too much about it so I almost didn’t go in and watch it, I’m glad I did. I feel weird rating this as my 4th favourite film of the year coz it felt kind of forgettable and I’m not sure if I got as much enjoyment out of it as I did for a lot of the other films this year, but honestly it was really interesting and I can’t think of anything to fault it on right now.
The fact that I knew she died made the whole film a lot sadder for me, every time she was in a car I was waiting for it to crash and all the happy moments at the end I was tearing up and I thought she was about to die or would die a year later. For Anyone who was wondering, this film is set in 1991 and she died in 1997. It’s not long but she got to spend 6 more years with Harry and William and that makes me happy so I thought I’d leave this at the end.
7.9/10
So watched this like an hour ago and I have made it home, just now googling it and realising Princess Diana was not the Queen’s daughter she was her daughter in law which kinda changes the film for me. Also now I get the whole Spencer thing coz it was her last name.
Diana and Charles separated in 1992 less than a year after this film and she was divorced in 1996 a year before she died.
