After the Second Impact, Tokyo-3 is being attacked by giant monsters called Angels that seek to eradicate humankind. The child Shinji’s objective is to fight the Angels by piloting one of the mysterious Evangelion mecha units. A remake of the first six episodes of GAINAX’s famous 1996 anime series. The film was retitled “Evangelion: 1.01” for its DVD release and “Evangelion: 1.11” for a release with additional scenes.

So this film is pretty much just a remake of the start of the 1995 show. The show came first but had a shitty ending and they released the film end of evangelion which was an amazing ending which is the film that most people probably have heard of (it’s literally called the end of because it’s the end of the show if you want to watch it don’t skip the show). Then they made the rebuild films that there are now 4 of, the final one released last year I think. This is the first rebuild film which is just nearly completely the same as the start of the show. I believe it’s the end of the 2nd/ start of the 3rd film where it stops being the same as the show and they give us an alternative ending that doesn’t make you want to die (but in the best way possible) like end of Eva does. So yeah this one is just a remake of a masterpiece which obviously means it wasn’t as good, buts it’s still Eva and it’s amazing. There’s a great soundtrack and plenty of deep and intense moments. The show is just better though, but only coz the show is incredible, on its own this film is really good.
It’s structured well and works quite good as a film, I’m excited to watch the next one and see how it differs from the series. There’s not much else to say about this, evangelion is amazing, this is amazing but not as amazing as the original.
Watch the show and then watch end of evangelion.
