This film was ok I guess, it’s safe to say I will never watch it again, and I probably never would have watched it if I didn’t fall down this dark pit of anime during half term, which unfortunately included something called school days which has nothing to do with this so I won’t get into it right now. This film had a nice premise, a girl uses a cats body to get closer to her crush, it’s execution is alright, but I think it could have been better, I think this film had the potential to be great but ended up just being forgettable and mediocre. The reason for this, for me is the characters mostly, they are all pretty stupid, it may just be me but for instance the mask dealer, is one of the worst antagonists I’ve ever seen in an anime film, and again it’s a shame coz he looks like he could be quite interesting but his character is just useless and stupid and pointless, well not pointless as he is the main antagonist but he is super dumb. Like the whole “final battle” kind of thing was just the kid with cat hands tryna grab this fat cat human thing while the fat cat thing just jumps around trying to catch a floating bubble of lifespan. It’s like they wanted to make him a sinister villain but also wanted to make him a funny and likeable character and they couldn’t make their mind up of which to go with so they gave us this mess of a character. The girl was kind of interesting in the sense she is an eccentric character but she’s putting on an act as deep down she is exactly like the boy that she for some reason likes. I don’t think they explained why she liked him other than the fact he makes her happy, but I thought he was kinda a dick to be honest, except to the cat, which shouldn’t count as he thought it was an animal. I also expected the reveal to him that she was his cat to be more interesting rather than her step mums cat telling him in her body and him being like “oh”. It all just felt kind of messy the way it was done.
Yeah so in short the film was good, but could have been a lot better so I’m going to give it a......
6.7/10
(Seriously I can’t get over school days someone else watch it right now so they can experience the absolute hell I just went through then I won’t be alone and I’ll have someone to talk to it about)
