A biopic about weird al with Daniel Radcliffe and Rain Wilson is one of the best things I’d ever heard, and I loved the trailer so much, I was really excited about this.
It was an Interesting one, it Felt fake, like a kids film. Like actors playing actors, or a YouTube or tick tock skit. It didn’t feel real. It was…. Weird. I guess that’s the point, it’s like a parody of his life, but hard to take seriously, which makes most the emotional moments all fall a little flat. Most of it isn’t true, like him turning down joining queen to play live aid (I don’t know that that’s fake for sure it’s just an assumption). I have no idea how much of this film is real and how much is fake, like all the stuff with his parents. It’s not a very laugh out loud funny film, kind of like how parody songs aren’t, they are just smart and creative, that’s what this feels like, it feels like a parody of Bohemian Rhapsody and weird als life. I say that but I did laugh out loud quite a bit so maybe I’m wrong.
The film is very fast paced. LSD doesn’t kick in that quick. The film falls off the rails pretty quickly and continues to spin out of control for the rest of the runtime. Just as it gets a little too crazy he finally says no and returns back to normality. (More or less)
Ok I laughed at the Michael Jackson bit. I found my self laughing at the absurdity of the film, it just got crazier and crazier and I quite liked and enjoyed that aspect of it. Never seen anything like it before. It feels very much like a parody of a biopic genre and the kinda film that weird al would love to make about his life.
Fuck it I liked the ending, the Amish paradise stuff was really good and I always love seeing Daniel Radcliffe. Also rain Wilson at the end was quite funny. I enjoyed this.
It was weird.
To anyone else that was curious.
“Alfred Matthew Yankovic was born on October 23, 1959, in the Los Angeles suburb of Lynwood, to Mary Elizabeth (Vivalda) and Nick Louis Yankovic. His father was of Yugoslavian descent and his mother was of Italian and English ancestry. He first took up the accordion when a salesman came around to solicit business for a music school. His parents decided on the accordion because of polka king Frankie Yankovic (no relation). As a child and young teen, Al watched a lot of television, which gave him much inspiration for his later work. He also became a fan of such musician/comedians as Allan Sherman and Spike Jones. He became especially acquainted with these musicians through the radio show of Barry Hansen, aka "Dr. Demento", which would later become a great source of publicity for his talents. “
So it wasn’t all a lie.
