The best thing/ one of the only things I liked about this film was Chris Pratt, that’s not so much as him being a great actor as it is him just being a really likeable guy. The relationship between him and his daughter is the only other part of this film that’s ok, the rest of it is just pointless sci fi shit. Some of the sci fi stuff was cool, but it just feels like the most pointless sci fi film ever, it’s not necessarily boring, I just found it kind of uninteresting or generic. Could be partly because the villains were incredibly plain and boring, they were just aliens and that’s it. Not even good aliens, even attack the block has better aliens. The final act really annoyed me, how everything came together too well, like they need an expert in volcanos, who do they go to? The kid they really unnaturally made the point of loving volcanos earlier in the film in that one scene. It felt really weird, they did the same thing again later on when they needed a pilot, everything at the end feels forced and I didn’t like it. The final fight was boring, I like the overall message of the ending about his daughter and his family but it still could have been done better, ending was meh and so was the film, overall kind of forgettable.
4.9/10
