The Text 2024
Directed by T.W. Peacocke85 minRomance · Comedy · TV Movie
Addie is a New York City chiropractor mistakenly receives a text from “Nana.” The accidental text turns into a loving friendship between the matronly Nana and Addie who now communicate regularly. Nana invites Addie to spend the holiday in Vermont. It is picture-postcard perfect and exactly as Nana described except for one surprise. Nana’s single son, James, a traveling doctor is also home for the holidays. Over three consecutive years, James and Addie are together during the holidays, though it isn’t until they are both single that they begin to see each other in a different light.

Another insanely impressive Joel haver film, this one just 48 minutes and shot in just 4 hours. The YouTuber/ filmmaker Joel haver has a yearly competition where instead of watching the Oscar’s, he challenges us all to instead use those 4 hours of our lives to attempt to make a film instead. Considering this was made in so little time this is an incredible feat and another reason while this man is one of my biggest inspirations.
This is also part of a long term challenge Joel Haver was doing where he was attempting to create 12 feature films in one year, one every month. He is such a talent I really recommend you check out some of his films if you haven’t heard of him before.
This was one take, how the hell did he manage to choreograph this in such a little amount of time. Some of the shots are really good considering, it feels a little shaky and amateur but in a way that, like all of his other films only adds to how real the film feels. The dialogue is also improvised again like most of his films that makes it feel so real.
Dax flame is so good in this film and its stuff like this that makes me think he’s playing a character in his videos as this man just plays himself in this film way too well, there’s no way he can play awkward that well without being some what aware of how awkward he is. He was my favourite character, I really didn’t expect him to be in this but he fits in so well with Joel Haver’s awkward and realistic style of filmmaking.
Someone I don’t know as well but one of Joel havers friends who’s been in many of his films, Trent Lenkarski, is so awkward too. His acting feels so sincere and him and Dax play off each other so well it was really great to watch them acting together on this one.
The film was really stupid and funny, I love how all the characters have their own little thing going on, like the app and turning 30, it was always funny when dax stresses them out just because of how awkward he is. The music was really cool too I love the diegetic piano soundtrack it was a really cool way of adding music to the film. The ending was kinda wholesome too. It was really cool to see a one shot film of characters just chilling in a house, it was something very different and I really enjoyed it.
Dax Flame is a generational talent.
