I was moderately excited to see this film. I remember it being announced so long ago and it’s weird to finally have it in the cinemas. I never liked little mermaid much as a kid and this film helped me remember why. There is a lot I do like about it, the music is up there behind lion king as some of the best Disney music, but all of the good songs are in the first 3rd of the film, really it’s mostly under the sea and part of your world that are the only songs I love, and Halle Bailey’s singing was amazing, was finding it hard not too sing along to part of your world, was really good I enjoyed it. Another song that I don’t remember from the original was Eric’s song which I also really liked.  Sebastian didn’t look great but his voice actor saved him making him one of the best characters, he did really well considering what he was working with. When kiss the girl was starting I was in the toilet and ran back in to hear it.  As a kid other than the fact that I found Ursula terrifying, I didn’t like this film coz the main character didn’t speak for half of it and I found it a little boring, watching this I do agree with young me, it did get a bit boring, but it has its moments and I love the music, even the weird rap song was kinda entertaining. I usually find awkwafina quite annoying but she was funny with this and suited the role I think.  Yeah but the film was slightly boring but good music, and good acting and had some funny moments, a good live action adaptation I think but I’d obviously rather rewatch the original. The ending was kinda ridiculous and felt a bit much. Think Jen laughing at it made it too dumb for me and ruined it. As she said in her review “Funniest moment was when Eric and Ariel were leaving at the end and her dad just popped up like 🧍🏼‍♀️ I loudly said URM! Also by the end of it she’s not a mermaid so I don’t know why they keep referring her to a mermaid as if she didn’t just reject her own species.” she did say Urm out loud and it made me realise how dumb the ending was, also I’d just come back from the toilet again so was really confused and it all felt kinda dumb. She also said that she’s not a mermaid out loud.  I think it’s fair enough Disney are remaking everything in live action. As someone who loves Disney and likes animation over live action, I am finding it fun to see them made into live action. Not sure why everyone’s so mad about them making them, I can understand them not wanting to watch them, but seeing these amazing animated films brought to life, im finding quite fun, people always say that Disney should be making original content instead, but it’s not like they aren’t also making other new stuff, I think seeing all the live action stuff is cool and I will be watching more of them.  6.6/10
