The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou 2004
Directed by Wes Anderson119 minAdventure · Comedy · Drama
Renowned oceanographer Steve Zissou has sworn vengeance upon the rare shark that devoured a member of his crew. In addition to his regular team, he is joined on his boat by Ned, a man who believes Zissou to be his father, and Jane, a journalist pregnant by a married man. They travel the sea, all too often running into pirates and, perhaps more traumatically, various figures from Zissou's past, including his estranged wife, Eleanor.

Currently at a 24 hour Wes Anderson fest at the cinema where they are playing every Wes Anderson film. I’ve been here for 9 hours now. I feel like I say this every time but I think this was my favourite so far. Noah bumbach co wrote it, it had a fantastic soundtrack, any film with life on mars on the soundtrack I appreciate and above all of that, it’s visually stunning.
I love films about the ocean, this may be the best film about the ocean I’ve ever seen, Steve was an incredibly well written character and his relationship with Owen Wilson’s character was done very well. It got really emotional.
The scene where the helicopter fell into the water was AMAZING, it was filmed and edited perfectly I was actually shocked. The flashes of red, the camera dipping under the bloody water, very well done.
Willem dafoe.
After watching the third film in the cinema today I felt like I may have been losing my mind a little, but after some good food and a fantastic movie I’ve gained my bearings a little.
I am getting a little sick of Bill Murray at this point, because I feel like I’ve been staring at his face for the last 5 hours, but honestly him playing a guy who’s a bit of a dick but has a wholesome relationship with a younger person, it honestly works every time.
We are now getting to the point in the night where everybody behind me is talking about going home and coming back before astroid city, but I’ve never seen the next film that’s playing THE DARJEELING LIMITED, and I really really wanna see fantastic mr fox, I made it this far I think I’m gonna try ride it out and stay as long as physically possible.
I do think I may have reached my breaking point and I’m considering going home and coming back for astroid city. My brain feel overloaded.
The next film started and I was instantly just like I can’t do this any more and left. Really didn’t want to leave as I wanted to last longer and I have been excited about this for a while but I have work tomorrow and I wanna be awake for astroid city.
But I saw 4 films in the cinema today which was still an experience in itself and tomorrow I’ll watch astroid city.
Life aquatic was amazing.
8.6/10
It’s 9:30 and I’ve been at the cinema for 9 and a half hours
My dreams tonight will be filmed in the style of Wes Anderson.
The astroid city poster I won from playing kahoot is now stuck up on my wall
