I enjoyed this film, it was pretty similar to Wolf of Wall Street, it just was slightly more confusing and had characters that were likeable and not based on cunts. One of Steve Carell’s best performances, up there with beautiful boy, he plays my favourite character in this. It was also very interesting, learning about all the housing and banking terms I’ve already forgotten, not sure how I felt about them getting celebrities to explain everything as it felt a bit out of place, but was kinda cool as I’ve not seen a film do anything like that before. A very interesting style of story telling, especially when it’s telling a true story, the fourth wall stuff works really well. There was one point in the film where the character pauses, looks at the camera, and explains that what was just shown wasn’t what happened in real life and was just done for dramatic effect which I thought was really cool.
Great cast, Steve Carell, Christian Bale, Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling. It also had Max Greenfield who plays a pretty scummy character, I was happy to see him as he’s from a tv show I quite like that I won’t reveal the name of out of embarrassment for one of my guilty pleasure shows.
I don’t really like all the stock footage and stuff they would cut to, I think that’s something that was also done in Wolf of Wall Street but it wasn’t done as well in this. Also the ending felt a bit too quick but I liked the happy ending psych out that they did.
It was an interesting film and I feel like I almost learnt something. There wasn’t really a main character just lots of groups of characters that never even meet but are mostly all equally interesting. A fun film, I enjoyed it.
I haven’t seen spotlight though and everyone says that’s a better film.
