Calvin is a young novelist who achieved phenomenal success early in his career but is now struggling with his writing – as well as his romantic life. Finally, he makes a breakthrough and creates a character named Ruby who inspires him. When Calvin finds Ruby, in the flesh, sitting on his couch about a week later, he is completely flabbergasted that his words have turned into a living, breathing person.

I enjoyed this quite a bit, Paul Dano is one of my favourite actors and I always love seeing Zoe Kazan too who apparently wrote this film aswell.
The concept was really cool and interesting, I think I just like films about writers, kinda felt like a less intense version of adaptation. The pacing and editing was really good and I really enjoyed the writing and acting. The scene where he reveals his power over her is super creepy and well done, I also loved how realistic the reaction to her showing up is from him and his brother.
Lots of actors I recognised popped up, puss in boots, Karen Paige and Alan partridge. Was quite cool.
Overall this was very similar to the kind of film I would love to make some day, enjoyed watching it a lot. The whole idea of writing your perfect partner onto paper, but dating that same girl in real life and struggling to keep a stable relationship even though you have to power to change anything you want about her at all times is really interesting. I liked the ending, idk if it was the best decision to have it end like that due to his character becoming rather unlikable after some of the things he did, but he gets a fresh start after some character development and I like that. I also liked when he spoke with the ex and she said that he only wanted to date himself and that is effectively what he ended up doing with ruby, dating his ideal girl that he wrote, it’s all very interesting and fun to read into.
