Rewatching this film as I just started the sequel ready player two, exited to read. In my opinion the book is better than the film, but seeing all the VFX and hearing the 80s music, really seeing the film brought to life is amazing. If you liked the film I recommend you read the book, even if you aren’t in to reading, I wasn’t and I read it in a few days, some of the challenges are entirely different and it goes into a lot more detail and has a lot of more interesting additions to the world and the oasis. There’s a lot of problems with this film, it’s littered with bad acting, and it still annoys me that the whole Romance side of it was kind of dumb, Samantha and wade had very little chemistry and they just felt forced to me, it still makes me laugh out loud when he just randomly blurts out that he loves her when they’ve had like 4 conversations, but since he spends all his time in the oasis that was most likely his first interaction with a girl. But who better to direct a film with probably the more 80 references than a documentary about the 80s than a man who was even mentioned in the book a few times, Steven Spielberg. Though I thought some of the jokes and acting was bad, I liked the cast a lot, and I think that fight at the end was cooler than the end game fight, so it was just so cool to see in live action, just a great film, ima go read the second book now.  8.6/10
