Walking out of this film has left me with a similar feeling to when I was walking out after watching decision to leave.
Firstly, that was a technical masterpiece. Park Chan-wook is one of the greatest directors of all time. The cinematography, the sound design, the music and the editing are all incredible. This film has some of the best match cuts I’ve ever seen in my life.
Secondly this film didn’t really stick with me in the way I wanted it to and it was pretty forgettable. I respect the hell out of it and considering how incredibly made it is I feel like I can’t give it anything less than 4 1/2 stars. And the acting is great and the story is good. But I’m writing this the next day and despite some memorable scenes, it wasn’t that memorable of an experience.
That’s just how it affected me though really I can totally see someone walking out of that and thinking it was the greatest film they’ve ever seen.
Also Oldboy is the one of my favourite films and after this I’m definitely gonna watch some more Park Chan-wook.
