So after the obvious L that Taika took after Thor: Love and Thunder, he really needed a win from this film. But the reviews came out and were quite bad, everyone I talked to about it said it was bad or said they didn’t wanna see it as they heard how bad it was. This is was quite disappointing as I love Taika Waititi and I put watching this film off for a while, but after seeing it pop up on my Disney plus I thought, fuck it and decided to give it a go. It wasn’t great, I can kinda see what people were talking about, it had some funny moments and I really liked the colour and set design, but the main character was a little annoying and his character development felt kinda forced. Couldn’t care less about his wife it didn’t do enough there to make you care enough about his life before the film. Just was something off about it where it just wasn’t grabbing me.  And yet the ending and me in tears. I don’t know why but the whole final act of the film I couldn’t stop crying I loved it. I do think the character development felt forced and it was kinda dumb for him to say your already perfect play how you did before when before they literally lost 31-0. Yet somehow seeing the final game and seeing them score a goal was the most satisfying thing I’ve maybe ever seen in a film it had me so emotional and I’m so happy for them. Everything that felt forced before came together in a way that really worked for me and I honestly went from thinking the film was a bit meh to loving it. Even the credits seeing the real life people and where they are today had be crying, really just a lovely story.  Weird film to have to rate, I think it’s hard as at first I agreed with everyone that said the film was bad and now I take personal offence to it. I don’t regret watching and I would recommend, even if you don’t like it at least so I can argue about it with you.  7.9/10
