Directed by Noboru Mitsusawa104 minAction · Animation · Romance
With high school graduation right around the corner, Takumi Fujiwara has a lot on his mind and a lot to prepare for. Everything becomes even more complicated when Takumi is offered a spot on Ryosuke Takahashi's elite Kengai Racing Team, which seeks to assemble the greatest racers in the Gunma area for a tour of Japan's mountain passes. Before he can accept however, Takumi feels the need to settle the score with the Lancer Evo driving Emperor team, defend his downhill-racer crown against the son of his father's greatest rival, and finally settle things with his unfaithful girlfriend Natsuki.

So this is pretty much the 3rd season of an anime about racing but done as a film. If you like fast and furious or cars and racing you gotta watch this show it’s really good. This is my review of the film and the show in general.
This feels like a generic sports anime but about racing. When I say generic though I mean it in the best way possible, it’s done in the typical sports anime formulae but it does it perfectly. I don’t care about racing or cars in general, but I also didn’t used to care about boxing and volleyball before I watched hajime no ippo and haiykuu. This show makes me care, it’s really good, 10 x better than fast and furious and I may actually apply for my provisional licence now 2 years after turning 17.
The stage it’s self definitely wasn’t as good as the 1st one, it was an alright film because it’s pretty much just a season of initial d but some of the characters became really unlikable and none of the races were as cool and intense. It focused to much on Mako which is a character that I’ve really began to dislike and the one race I was really hyped for was at the end and too fast paced. I could see why this is a film and not a season because it would have made a boring season but it kinda works like this. The intro was really annoying as we didn’t need that poorly done recap, but I like initial d and it was still a cool film.
Also the ending gave us a takami hero Moment which was really forced and it got a little dark, it would be ok if they didn’t force the cars to be involved somehow.
Not the best of initial d but a cool continuation of a great series.
6.8/10
