So this last year I’ve been watching a few of my favourite films from my childhood, mostly Pixar films, and most of them are just as good, sometimes even better than than I remember. Surfs up in particular was one that was way better than I remembered. I remember how to train your dragon as being a great film, but I didn’t expect it to be this good. This film is honestly amazing, from the incredible soundtrack to the likeable characters. Toothless and hiccup have one of the greatest bromances of all time, hiccup is a great character with funny, memorable and well written dialogue. Toothless is also a great character even though he has no dialogue and isn’t a human, he reminds me of both of my dogs and is a funny dragon who is impossible to dislike. The chemistry between not just toothless and hiccup but hiccup and Astrid is also brilliant. The voice acting is also great for not just hiccup, but all the rest of the characters who’s names I can’t remember. The story is so emotional and well done, the friendship between hiccup and toothless and the relationship between hiccup and his father, or even the relationship between humans and dragons, it’s all so interesting and I really love it. The animation is great, each of the scenes of hiccup and toothless flying makes me feel like a kid again, especially with the beautiful soundtrack which I listened to recently when I was trying to get my final course work for college done. The film has an emotional, impactful ending and it was surprisingly really funny. I’m now 18 years old and I still can’t watch it without crying like a little child, Definitely one of the best kids films of all time, and I’ll definitely be watching the next 2 and even this one again soon. Beautiful film.
