So I watched this with 3 other people and I was the only one that thinks the first one was better. I am right. They are wrong. As a story, as a whole, the first one is better. The first one I was close to tears at the end, this one I was barley even paying attention to it. A couple of characters improved in this film. Ryan mostly. Sharpay was ok. All the other characters got a lot worse and their relationships and problems all felt trivial and cringe.
The first film I felt bad for Troy coz all the other characters were being dumb for not letting him sing. This one I thought he was being a dick. But so were his friends. They were all dicks.
Sure this film has a couple of bangers. Bet on it is amazing. But most of the other songs felt a bit too over the top, where the first one felt like a real film with real characters, though obviously it still can never be taken completely seriously, this one felt like it gave up on any sense of realism.
The first film is better. I am right.
The start of something new.
Breaking free.
Them two alone make the second film look trash.
Maybe I’m taking this too seriously as it’s high school musical but I am defensive of the first film as I like it. Still like this one tho.
3rd one I don’t remember too fondly but will probably watch it next.
6.1/10
Shout out for Josh.
