Free Willy 2 is an almost perfect sequel, Killer whales are my favourite animals because of how much I love these 2 films (2 films because the 3rd film wasn't as good and the 4th one... as far as i'm concerned that one isn't a free willy film). This film is just as good as the first one, adding some great characters, Nadine ( Mary Kate Schellhardt), Elvis (Francis Capra, who I just found out is the guy from veronica mars) and a more mature Jessie ( still played by Jason James Richter). The soundtrack is one of my favourite soundtracks of all time. Orcas are the greatest animals in the world and its my dream to see one out in the wild some day, so I love every shot of Willy, though the real story behind the whale Keiko is kind of sad, Willy and Jessie have one of the greatest friendships in all of film. Because this film was a big part of my childhood I'm gonna say its amazing no matter how bad I think it is now, but there are actually a lot of things about this film I think are really good. Elvis I think is a really interesting character, a pathological liar who just lost his mum and is jealous of his new older brother, I think he actually has some decent character development. though it happened pretty early on, I also enjoyed the relationship between Jessie and Nadine and Jessie's older brother moments were pretty cool too. The villain wasn't as good as the last film, mostly because he just feels like a clone of the last villain but with less screen time. Jessie risking his life for willy was fucking awesome, Jesse risking his little brother and girlfriend's lives for Willy's not as fucking awesome, but all the fire stuff with the whales and the water all just looked great. Overall the first one was better, this one added new interesting elements but the first one had a better story, This film may not deserve a rating this high, but it makes me happy so I can’t rate it any lower.
