Four Lions 2010

Directed by Chris Morris97 minComedy · Crime · Drama

Four Lions tells the story of a group of British jihadists who push their abstract dreams of glory to the breaking point. As the wheels fly off, and their competing ideologies clash, what emerges is an emotionally engaging (and entirely plausible) farce.

I am on 997 films logged. This is my 998th. I wanted it to be my 1000th but my roommates made me watch it now so I have to find a new film for number 1000. I wanted it to be this one coz it was a film I knew I would enjoy and I did.  This may be one of the darkest comedies I’ve ever seen and I loved it, they managed to use such serious topics and such terrible characters and make them hilarious and likeable. I think it’s really smart, it humanises them by making them funny, really showing us how they are also victims in this story. The ending is so dark and real and scary, the fact they managed to make it so funny at the same time is something I’ve never seen before and I found it really interesting.  I like to think people are wrong when they say a film like this couldn’t be made in todays climate. I’m sure there would be people who have something to say about it on Twitter, but I feel like the majority of audience will be able to watch it and have the same opinion on it as I have on this having watched it for the first time today.  Riz Ahmed is one of my favourite actors, every character in this was really funny but I was glad to see Riz in this. I may rewatch his short film the long goodbye now after seeing the rapping scene in this. A far more serious film with similar topics.  I would recommend this, it was very good.  Film 998 8.5/10
