I thought this was gonna be really good, then after watching the first 10 minutes I thought it wasn’t gonna be as good as I thought, then it ended up being better.  I think at first I didn’t really like her character but she definitely grew on me.  There was a lot going on, a lot of different complex relationships, it made it a little difficult to for it to all come together at the end. I loved Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s character and I liked her decision not to go and see him, but feel like his character was left a little open ended. It was bitter sweet as I’m glad she focused on her son instead, it actually had me quite emotional.  Not every song was great but there were some great ones in there, my favourite was meet in the middle, that performance made me tear up and I even had to go back and listen to it again.  The mother son relationship was great, my favourite aspect of the film. The father was a bit of a dick but he did something nice at the end begrudgingly, I don’t think it made up for what he did especially when they never explained why he did it.  as a songwriter and guitarist myself certain aspects of this were very relatable, especially the scene of her searching through tutorials on YouTube.  It was a very cute film about a mother and son and a cool music film. Also Joseph Gordon-Levitt is always great.  7.7/10
