Drinking Buddies 2013
Directed by Joe Swanberg90 minRomance · Drama · Comedy
Weekend trips, office parties, late night conversations, drinking on the job, marriage pressure, biological clocks, holding eye contact a second too long… you know what makes the line between “friends” and “more than friends” really blurry? Beer.

Had never heard of this before, stumbled onto it randomly on Letterboxd while going through Jake Johnson’s films. There was a good review for it and the cast looked great; Jake Johnson, Anna Kendrick, Jason Sudeikis and Emilia Clarke. Had me at Jake Johnson.
The acting is quite good, felt very natural, there were lots of really long takes where I think the actors have really good performances, especially Emilia Clarke and Jake Johnson. It’s not a typical romance, the people you expect to get together don’t get together, it’s a realistic film about love and friendship.
The ending was really good, I enjoy endings like that, feels anti climactic in the best way. Just two people sitting there. Life goes on.
I really like Jake Johnson, coz new girl and Spider-Man. He was good in this. Also Anna Kendrick because pitch perfect and 50/50 and because she’s Anna Kendrick. This film was kinda uninteresting at times, not too much happened, but it was good. I enjoyed.

Ok backtracking on my review real quick. I liked this film for how natural it felt, how it felt like real people having real conversations. I just read that it was entirely improvised, I didn’t even realise. That’s kinda incredible.
