This was really good. It feels like just 3 friends hanging out making something and it’s about 3 friends hanging out and making something. Feels really natural, the three of them are really good actors and the whole thing was really believable. I loved how meta it was, a film about a play about a play. I also really loved the ending where it reveals Jamie did some Nathan fielder script and wrote how he wanted the weekend to go, and he kinda mentions how scary it is living without a script, your whole life is like one big improv film. The fact that he says this at the end of a film about this weekend was just so cool and I found it really interesting. Such a cool ending.
“I’m scared that every day of your life is like some weird improvised thing”
Jamie, jack and joe are really funny and they all work so well together. There’s lots of great things I loved about this, like jacks frustration about the whole project, the very real stress of trying to get everyone enthused about your project and trying desperately to make them take it as serious as you are. With Jamie’s other film Gonzo, we stay with Jamie’s character the whole time and go on a journey with him, this film is more natural with two other people and I really enjoyed seeing them interact. The dialogue was really natural and funny and the editing was quite unique and fast paced and I think it added to the comedy of the film. Jamie scales up certain shots with weird zoom ins that worked really well with the tone of the film but felt a little like a YouTube video.
Another great film from Jamie Evans. I would recommend to everyone, especially if your a student in the same position trying to desperately make whatever you can.
