I feel weird about rating this film this high, but it really isn’t that bad. I used to love it back in 2014 when it first came out and I used to rewatch it all the time with my mum. But back then I was 13 and hadn’t watched that many films. I’ve read the book too and I remember it as being better than the film. I also read a spin off from fours perspective and after watching this I kinda wanna re read it.
The film was a little annoying. Mostly because of the protagonist tris, she’s supposed to be portrayed as this badass, intelligent woman but she came off as kinda stupid and weak. For instance I kinda feel like if she had just done what her mum told her to do and covered her instead of trying to be cool and saying “I got dis”, her mum would *spoiler* still be alive. Her character really irritated me but she also does have some cool moments and her romance with Thor was done pretty well.
This kinda felt like an action film made for 20-40 year old women. But I kinda like it. It’s weird how the main characters super power is having more than one personality trait, but the concept of them being split into factions was really cool, just the divergent stuff was kinda dumb.
Theo James was good, miles teller was good and Ansel Elgort was good. Liked this a little coz of nostalgia, it never annoyed me this much as a kid but I still think it’s an alright movie.
6.7/10
