Everyone I watched this film with had very similar reactions to it in that we really didn’t know what to think. There’s lots to love and lots to hate. I think the directing and the performances were very good, Emily Blunt especially did very well and I love every film I see with Josh O’Connor and Colman Domingo.  There were parts of it that were very interesting - Emily Blunt’s powers were cool. Though it was packed with lots of slightly boring and slightly stupid chase scenes that I eventually got quite sick of.  I’m actually not too sure why - as I also thought the ending was quite bad. But it hit me emotionally and had me tearing up a little. I thought it was too long and unbelievable and the CGI wasn’t very good but it actually did hit me emotionally for whatever reason. I think something about the message of the film was quite impactful.  I quite liked the way it started, how it threw you right into it, leaving you scrambling to catch up just as some of the characters of the film are. But I do feel like it created a disconnect with the characters that it never fully recovered from, which really makes me think (as cool as it was) it could have really benefited from an extra 20 minutes at the start to set things up a little better.  Just overall I feel like it was really missing something. The only character I really connected to was Emily Blunt’s. Though I wanted to like Josh o’connors so bad. It all fell a little flat in the end.  I quite liked how all the ww3 stuff was going on in the background but it never really addressed it. Everyone throughout the film was too focused on war to realise there were aliens right in front of them for years. Though I’m not sure I like the film in all - and as far as Spielberg films go I don’t think it even beats The Fabelmans for me. There was a lot to like about it and I really recommend people go see it and form their own opinions of it. Interested to see what everyone else thinks. 7.0/10
