I’ve talked a lot of shit about Americans watching films at the cinema and how annoying it would be to watch a film with them. I love how British people are silent and don’t cheer or gasp or shout during the movie. It hurts to say it but I was wrong. I saw this film in an amc theatre in Florida the day of release and the experience was much better than the British cinema experience.
When there was a cool cameo and I felt all happy inside, we didn’t sit in silence, every one cheered and it made me even happier. I still don’t understand who they are clapping to at the end of the movie as the people who made the film aren’t there, but I feel a bit more open minded about seeing a film at the cinema with a crowd who sound like they want to be there.
Also this is unrelated to the movie but American cinemas are annoyingly better than our cinemas in general. I worked at the cinema for nearly 3 years and I would have much preferred it to be an AMC than a cineworld. I can’t enter the cinema at all without a ticket, so no one sneaking into screens. You order your food at a self checkout and then bring your receipt to a collection point. Buttered Popcorn! Ok that last one was actually disgusting, I hyped it up a lot and thought it would be great but we definitely do better popcorn in the UK. The butter wasn’t good I was not able to eat one handful.
Also all the marketing for the film was so cool. There was a deadpool wolverine red carpet, giant projections and giant posters that I got to take my photo with. Honestly just a better experience all around but I’ll move on to the actual movie..
So as you can probably tell I’m on holiday in America right now and don’t tell my parents but I was more excited for this film than I was for anything else on this holiday. I convinced my Dad to let us leave Disneyland early and skip the fireworks show so we could watch this instead. I personally think it was worth it. The MCU is my Disneyland. Just like Martin Scorsese who also thinks they are just as good as theme parks.
The deadpool films have always been my favourite marvel projects ever since I convinced my parents to let me watch the first one when I was 15. Ryan Reynolds is such a perfect deadpool and he fought so hard for the project. So I was gonna be excited for this film even before it became deadpool vs wolverine but after I saw that first trailer I knew it would be impossible for it to be bad so I avoided all other trailers and spoilers until today. For deadpool and wolverine to be in the same film together, it just makes so much sense. The actors have so much chemistry in real life. It was the perfect marvel film.
And for the film to be about all the marvel projects left behind, it was genius. There were so many cameos and none felt forced like in other marvel projects like multiverse of madness. It was done so well. Even made me glad we didn’t get other cameos sooner because this was just the perfect film for all of them.
The film itself was everything I expected it to be. Deadpool and wolverine had the perfect chemistry. Perfect cameos. Very funny. Melded into the mcu perfectly. the villain wasn’t that good and I think it could have gone a little more into why wolverine was so messed up rather than just saying the xmen died a couple times. But Tom from succession was so funny and a great villain.
The opening was perfect and very funny. The gossip girl joke I liked. I also quite liked that they were very self aware about the current state of the MCU “welcome to the mcu, your not joining at the best time”. It gives me a little hope.
Not much else to say about the film itself the story was nothing special it was a deadpool mcu film but done in the best way possible and I loved every second of it and idc what IGN says.
8.8/10
