Directed by Patrick Brice80 minHorror · Thriller
After finding an ad online for “video work,” Sara, a video artist whose primary focus is creating intimacy with lonely men, thinks she may have found the subject of her dreams. She drives to a remote house in the forest and meets a man claiming to be a serial killer. Unable to resist the chance to create a truly shocking piece of art, she agrees to spend the day with him. However, as the day goes on, she discovers she may have dug herself into a hole from which she can’t escape.

Interesting way to do a sequel. It felt very similar but very different at the same time. The location and format felt like the same movie but this time we get Sara, who is very different from the last person and in a very weird way.
Firstly I really liked the introduction, it was great to see Karan Soni, even if only for a short while, the whole intro scene was quite good.
So Sara isn’t scared of Aaron. She knows he’s a killer but hangs out with him anyway, which is a very interesting decision. First off it makes her very weird, I know they set up her character to be that kind of person but I really just don’t see any normal person to ever react in the way she did to the whole situation. Putting that aside tho, her not being scared of him takes a lot of the scariness out the first half of the film. All most of this film has is jump scares that are just them trying to jump scare each other, which is no more scary than if my friend was to jump out at me from behind a corner.
It does add an interesting element however, as it gives us more room to explore the characters. Specifically Aaron’s character, who Mark Duplass once again does a fantastic job at portraying. Made this film feel a lot more like a very interesting character study rather than the horror film that the first one felt like. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing considering it was the most interesting element of the last creep film.
Even without watching the first film this works pretty well. The idea of someone being asked to make a documentary about a serial killer to tell their life story and going along with it due to their slight nativity along with their passion for telling great stories.
Honestly quite a good film, the only thing that held it back for me was the fact it wasn’t as believable as the first film. Sara’s character held it back a little for me a little I think. Overall though I think I liked it maybe even more than the first one. Mark Duplass is incredible, he’s a very inspiring filmmaker.
Enjoyed the ending a lot too. A short, simple and interesting film. Looking back on my review for the first film I said it felt a bit off when they left the cabin, this film they don’t leave the cabin and it works really well.
Final scene was so good but I think it could have ended with the shovel scene. The last couple shots felt a bit unnecessary and would have made perfect sense to end on. But it was only a couple shots after and they were still good so I’m not too mad about it. Aaron may have lost but he got exactly what he wanted in the end really.
