Bubble is an anime film on Netflix that released a couple of hours ago. It’s done by studio Wit, the studio you may know from the very popular anime’s (that I love) attack on Titan and Vinland saga. Directed by Tetsuro Araki who has worked on both attack on Titan and death note (2 of my favourites). The script was written by Gen Urobuchi, who had previously worked on another one of my favourites, Fate/Zero.  Pretty much this is just the end game of anime movies, so I was up at 8 in the morning, sitting at my tv refreshing Netflix, and I was extremely exited. Was worth it? Well the animation was awesome of course, the parkour stuff looked great. The main guy coming in and doing some mad parkour was a pretty cool moment. Though from the start it’s pretty clear his character is kinda dull and uninteresting. Then the bubble girl comes into it and the film becomes about their relationship, she was also not that interesting and she didn’t even speak so the film became a bit boring. I found it hard to care about anything happening in this film. The parkour was still cool, I just had no emotional attachment to the film whatsoever, also to be honest the parkour was only cool to look at I didn’t really care about that either.  The bad group had this weird gimmick where they talk with a machine on their hands, it’s was kinda cool the first time and then got old straight after. Their bubble boots and stuff was kinda cool and it was cool to see these really good parkour duo go up against the bad guys with the advantage. But again… I didn’t really care about any of it. Also the bad guys coming in at the end and asking if they wanna buy the boots (the one thing that made them not shit at parkour) was a little weird. Everything just felt kinda pointless, I didn’t get any of the characters’ motivations for the parkour, I think a parkour film is a really cool idea especially when paired with a great studio like Wit. But the story isn’t there, I’d like to see a parkour show at some point with some god of high school style animation, but this in all was only ok.  At one point one of the background characters downs a Coca Cola and his friend says “wow that was so cool”. Some of the background or side characters looked like they could have been interesting, but ultimately they were just as generic and boring as the main ones.  I’m not too disappointed. I’d seen letterbox reviews so I knew it wasn’t gonna be great, but maybe I regret waking up at 8am after only 2 hours sleep to watch this film.  I kept nearly falling asleep near the end but tbf I’m on 2 hours and this film is kinda boring, it got to a point when this film could have ended in pretty much anyway and I wouldn’t have given a shit.  I’m gonna go back to bed now.  5.9/10 I was incredibly tired so I might have to rewatch this.
