I’ve never been this hyped for a film I didn’t actually want to see that much. Probably because the delays built it up so much more, I can’t believe Spider-Man far from home was the last mcu film I saw at the cinema and now the next Spider-Man film is coming out in like 5 months (fingers crossed). This is the first film I’ve seen at cinemas since corona happened and I was really excited to finally watch black widow but to be honest a black widow film was never really going to be that good, she’s a cool character but mostly just because of Scarlett Johansson, but she was always the least interesting avenger. Also I was never really the biggest fan of the winter soldier, it’s a great film but not my favourite and I always imagined black widow being a lot like that but worse. Though black widow has always been a really mysterious character, we found out some of her backstory with the ballet shit in age of Ultron, and it was interesting to find out more, so I definitely feel like this film needed to happen and it could be good, but I personally was never really too excited to see it. Also a prequel to a film where the character *end game spoilers* has a big death was also quite different, as no matter what happens you know how her story will really end, which is kinda sad but also kinda nice to see her get some closure on certain parts of her life that we had no idea about before infinity war, kinda helps us recover a little bit from end game but a few years too late. My review of this film may change as I wasn’t fully paying attention since I saw this film with some annoying friends, we showed up late because they were getting popcorn and those fizzy tango slushys ( which were kinda worth it) and missed the opening (I’m not sure how much of it but the entire beginning and certain parts of the ending didn’t really make sense) I feel like that made some of the moments less impactful, and I also missed a lot of the jokes and fights because the friend I came with was really annoying. The film was ok though, pretty much just what I expected, except it was a lot more character driven than I thought it would be, and the characters were quite good, I can’t quite remember their names, but red guardian played by David Harbour, was like the drax of the film, quite funny but dumb, good character and one of the Highlights of the film, The blonde girl was also surprisingly quite funny and a great character who I’m sure we will be seeing a lot more of… maybe in the upcoming Hawkeye show. Taskmaster was completely wasted in this film and in the entire mcu, I love taskmaster and they really did him dirty here, he probably won’t even show up again. The suit looked shit and he was really under-utilised, also he didn’t talk at all, was a complete nothing villain, I can’t believe I was hyped for the film for what ended up being the worst character, really disappointing. He’s supposed to be so cool . The film was otherwise a basic action film, the editing was quite funny sometimes, there’s was one cut in particular that got a laugh out of me. Like I said the characters were good but I think they could have been much better, as could this whole film, it could have been much better, which is crazy because they had so long to work on it. It was better than captain marvel but the villains, characters and plot were only good because it was cool to get a look at natashas backstory, find out what happened in Budapest and see her as a kid (which I mostly missed) I am going to see this film again soon, maybe even this week so I’m sure I’ll have a different opinion if it when I know exactly what’s going on, but really just as expected it was kinda of a meh mcu film, I really dislike what they did with the intro, it’s the first mcu film I think I’ve seen that didn’t have the classic marvel opening (I also didn’t see the actual opening but after the introduction there was a shitty drawn out opening credits that felt like a 2003 Incredible Hulk movie), and I felt like if this was just a stand alone film that wasn’t in the mcu I probably would have turned it off or not even seen it to begin with, kinda forgettable and boring, which is also the problem I had with captain America and the winter soldier, i rewatched it recently and I still can’t remember what happened. Even captain marvel had a fun story (but an annoying character) and that’s my least favourite marvel film.
It was fun and ok but could have been better.
