Honestly ever since I saw this pop up on Greta Gerwig's letterboxd I’ve been so excited for it. It just looked so cool. I’ve had so many conversations trying to explain to people why this film is gonna actually be amazing and not just some kids film for girls. Now it’s finally here and everyone else being just as hyped if not maybe more hyped than I was to watch it just made me more excited. Me and my friends all dressed in pink (apart from my friend Marcus who thought dressing up as a pirate would count probably because there was an ocean in the trailer), they even took a picture of all of us at the Cinema and posted it on their Instagram because of how well dressed we were.
Honestly I feel like barbenheimer was like the biggest cinema event since I’ve been alive or at least since I’ve been watching films to the degree I do now, and I’m so happy I got to be a part of it with all my friends. And it makes it better that Barbie somehow met my expectations as I knew it would. I hate people that clap in the cinema but when Barbie finished I finally understood it.
Firstly this film is hilarious, I was laughing the whole time. Ken was perfect. Barbie was perfect. and Alan was also perfect. The music, the set design, the writing, the acting, it all was just as perfect as I was telling people it was gonna be for months.
Ken’s song is already by number 1 on repeat for Spotify.
Cast was stacked. Alan cast perfectly he was one of my favourites. Ryan gosling was made for that role he was too funny. I love Simu Liu, just made me more excited for the film coz he’s one of my favourite actors and he was hilarious in this too.
The mum and the daughter I liked, but think are the only characters that could have been better if we just got a bit more setting their characters up, I started to care about them eventually but it took a while as I felt like their characters felt a bit rushed.
Will Farrell was in it. Also perfect casting as the CEO. I kinda expected everyone in Barbie to be weird and then everyone in the real world to be normal but they were weird as hell too.
Pacing was very good, felt a little too quick at times but overall the fast pacing just works for the style of the film.
Maybe I won’t find it as funny on a rewatch but best thing about the film for me is it was just hilarious. I loved it. Maybe the second best cinema experience of my life. Can’t wait to watch it again.
Dunno what I have to look forward to anymore. The boy and the Herron maybe.
8.8/10
Apparently it was Greta Gerwig's dream to make this film since she was like 17 and my new dram is to make a spin off film about Alan.
