Back in the Day 2014
Directed by Michael Rosenbaum94 minComedy
Sometimes in order to move forward, you have to go back. And in this raunchy comedy, Jim Owens does just that when he heads home for his high school reunion. In an attempt to relive the glory days with his boys and explore an old romance, he nearly destroys his hometown and friendships.

Many, many jokes in this film didn’t land and many of them that actually are quite funny are dragged out for way too long, I watched it for Michael Rosenbaum after listening to his podcast, though it is boring at times and has a very simple plot, I sort of enjoyed it. Though I do think Rosenbaum is a good actor, I just couldn’t root for his character, the intro was kinda shit filled with bad shots and pointless and somewhat lazy exposition. He comes back to his old town after listening to a bunch of voicemails and staring at an old picture which I guess just happened to be on his desk. It was kinda of funny at times, though I don’t think it was very well directed, which is a shame. Lex Luthor is also in love with some old girlfriend that is getting married and we are supposed to care about this just because they gave us a short flashback, there’s so much wrong with this film yet is was enjoyable at times, it feels like the kind of film I will completely forget soon, come to think of it, what was the title again?
I did like the whole him getting nostalgic about his old home as his acting’s not going well and he’s enjoying hanging out with his old friends, but I just think the whole thing was done so badly, like they gave us no context, it felt like the second episode to a tv show and we missed the pilot. He just returns home and it feels like I should know every character and understand all the old stories but it’s so rushed at the start I just don’t care at all. I think it was a good idea to make lex realise that he was the bad guy, but having the quirky character go crazy was so stupid I thought I couldn’t tell if it was all just a joke. This film was just so inconsistent.
