After 11 hours watching wes Anderson's films at the duke of york cinema for he wes anderson fest I finally have gone insane and feel like I have become a wes anderson character. seeing that many of his films in a row has driven me crazy and everything I do now is perfectly symmetrical, I feel very cinematic. Walking home from the cinema actually felt weird. Not even joking I waited for my mcdonalds and walked the whole way home like this. I apologise to all the people I nearly bumped into on the street while I was walking perfectly in the centre of the pavement. It makes sense that it was this film that finally did it, as for all the films I watched, this is the most Wes Anderson, and also the worst of the bunch. Not to say this was a bad film, I still enjoyed it. It goes without saying the film looked amazing, the cast was stacked with people like Steve Carell, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Jeff Goldblum and Scarlett Johansson. Sadly no bill Murray and Owen Wilson but I am fine with that as I think I've seen enough of those two after these last 24 hours. I didn't really like the film within a film stuff, but it starts to really work in probably my favourite scene of the film, where the character just up and leaves the set and starts to question the fact he doesn't understand his own character and has a conversation with the actress that was cut from the film, all felt really meaningful and emotional and I love how it was set up. also Bryan Cranston narrated which made it slightly better, led t a really funny joke where he realises he's in the wrong place. The ending felt a little underwhelming, didn't move me as much as some of his other films, as a whole it was alright but there was nothing really special about the final scene. Willem dafoe. The concept was very interesting, again the story within a story stuff was a bit much, but the actual story of asteroid city was fun. feel like the problem with films like these for me is there's way too many characters and its harder to relate to any one character, but I thought the alien coming down was so funny and I loved all the Brainiac kids and their messed up parents all quarantined in this weird town because of an event that's making them all question their own existence, very cool concept. Still I didn't love it as much as his other films, could have been a lot better as there were some interesting characters but there was just too many and the story didn't feel like it really went anywhere and then all the characters left a bit too suddenly for me at the end. but It still a wes anderson film and that man is a very talented director, though I'm getting a little bit of fatigue from his style now, the fact his style is so unique means he is able to pull of specific wonderful shots and filmmaking techniques that I don't think there's another filmmaker alive that can execute as well as he can. His films are all so weird which I love, as it all works so perfectly for him. overall I enjoyed the wes anderson fest and this was a nice ending to it, glad to be out of that screen though as there was a constant ringing the whole time that was starting to drive me insane. still the best cinema I've ever been to though and I'm so happy for the experience, I had a lot of fun. My asteroid city poster I won playing kahoot will stay on my wall for a while. I'm gonna give this film 4 stars as I rate everything between 7.6 - 8.5 4 stars. but I think my rating system is kinda flawed as most films I watch fall under that bracket unless I really liked or didn't like them. This was the worst wes anderson film I watched but Im gonna rate it the same as the other ones as I think it doesn't deserve lower than a 7.6 just because of how well made it is. 7.6/10
