Mean girls for kids  Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret is a film directed by Kelly Fremon Craig, who is known for directing the 2016 coming of age film, The Edge of Seventeen, a film that I remember enjoying when I was younger. I was excited about watching this, it’s based on the Judy Blume novel of the same name which I had never heard of, but when I was walking in to watch it one of my co workers told me it was their favourite book as a kid which made me more excited to watch it.  I liked seeing how they handled the topic of religion, it was really interesting to look at it from a kids view, having parents of different religions and forced into conflicting beliefs by different members of her family, was really interesting for a coming of age film and I found all the scenes with her talking to god really compelling.  I also really liked Rachel McAdams, she was an incredibly likeable character and she is becoming one of my favourite actresses at the moment. Some of the stuff that happened with her character made me cry and my friend made fun of me but I don’t care because it was sad. She was probably the best character of the film.  I don’t think they did too good of a job with the side characters, some of them were good but to me a lot of their characters at the end felt rushed or unresolved. It made the whole ending to me feel weirdly rushed and formulaic. It kinda felt like the blonde girl couldn’t show up to any more scenes so they just decided her character didn’t matter anymore, she was actually quite interesting and I thought they could have done something better with her character but just made her kinda into the bad character even though I really don’t think she did anything wrong. She deserved a better ending I think. Also the tall girl who didn’t at all look believably 12 created a really predictable plot point that still felt kinda rushed at the end to me.  I liked the soundtrack a lot and the acting was good. Was a nice story and I did enjoy it quite a bit. It wasn’t amazing but I think it’s a good film.  I didn’t like the grandma, her character was good but what she did when she showed up uninvited to crash the reunion of Rachel McAdams and her parents, starting an argument that upset Margaret and ruined a nice evening was out of order. The parents were awful aswell but I do think if anything what they did, though terrible was influenced by their religion which is exactly what I think the film addresses really well and that was my favourite part about it.  7.0/10
