The acting and writing in this felt like when ur a kid and you play make believe in the primary school playground. It was really bad but as a kids film it works and I can see why it was so popular at cinemas.  There’s one scene when the kid is very clearly holding the crystal in his hand and jack black says “have u got the crystal?” And the kids like “yeah” and it was small stuff like that made me seriously think the film may have been written by Children. They do look like they are just having fun though which I think comes across when watching it and saves the film from being completely terrible. As the credits play I just broke out into laughter when I heard Matt Berry. The Jennifer Coolidge side plot was so unnecessary but amazing.  I get why they made this a live action. The director said there’s so many animated Minecraft projects that with their budget they wanted to do something different. But I do feel like this could have been an incredible animated film. The fact Rob McElhenney was originally meant to direct this and Steve Carell I think was attached makes me really sad that that never happened.  Seeing the Minecraft world brought to life was cool, but all the human characters were terrible and super forgettable.  I liked Steve’s song at the end and the technoblade reference is really respectable. 4.5/10
