Bill struggles to put together his shattered psyche.

This is the second time I’ve watched this film. I recommended it to a friend and the more I watched the more scared I was that he would hate it. It’s a very risky recommendation. If you’re going to watch this film, I recommend you find complete silence, you turn the lights off and you pay attention to every word said. This film is sad. It feels very real. If the idea of death freaks you out a lot I recommend this film. If you are feeling really depressed or even just a little sad I recommend this film. This isn’t the kinda thing you stick on with the family in the middle of the day, it’s very depressing, it’s an experience to watch, it’s….. about a stick man. Don’t let the animation put you off, it looks amazing. A few minutes into watching this at the same time as my friend I got the text “R u trolling me with the film 💀💀” I got scared and tried to explain to him it’s one of the best films ever made (maybe a little exaggeration) but he didn’t answer for a while and 40 minutes later he said  “This is rlly good man ” “Iss rlly sad tho” “Like this is kinda how I feel about existence uno” “Iss making me ask myself a lot of questions”  I think that sums up pretty well the effect this film has on you.  “I guess it’s just really real uno”  I love the editing, I love its simplicities, I love its repetitiveness and I love the ending. My only fault with it is it gets the tiniest bit boring at times.  It’s a beautiful film with so many deep and powerful lines that are really relatable and depressing. Maybe don’t read this if you haven’t seen the film but the line that hit me hardest was:  “He'd been terrified of dying his entire life, and as much as he tried not to think about it, death was always in the back of his head, around every corner, and hovering on each horizon. Hed brushed shoulders with death on a few occasions, but in his care free youth it had all seemed like an abstract impossible thing to ever happen to him, but with each passing decade he began to gauge the time he probably had left, and by his forties he had come to know just one thing: you will only get older. The next thing you know, you’re looking back instead of forwards, and now, at the climax of all those years of worry, sleepless nights and denials, bill finally finds himself staring his death in the face surrounded by people he no longer recognises, and feel no closer attachment to than the thousands of relatives that came before. And as the sun continues to set, he finally comes to realise the dumb irony in how he'd been waiting for this moment his entire life. This stupid, awkward moment of death, that had invaded and distracted so many days with stress, and wasted time.” Fuck Don hertzfelt is a genius and I thank him for giving us this incredible and moving film.  Please watch this, but watch it the right way, I hope you like it and get something out of it.  My friend finally finished this a day later and I think what he said to me is a good note to end this on “Bro I can’t stop thinking about such a beautiful day” “It’s fucking me up man” “I keep comparing that movie to my life and I wanna die 💀” “It just makes me wanna give up 😂😂” “Why did u make me watch this film man” “I’m having a crisis” 8.6/10
