Directed by Jimmy Chin, Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi100 minDocumentary · Adventure

Follow Alex Honnold as he attempts to become the first person to ever free solo climb Yosemite's 3,000 foot high El Capitan wall. With no ropes or safety gear, this would arguably be the greatest feat in rock climbing history.

Been really interested watching climbing videos recently and free soloing looks crazy so needed to watch this. Alex Honnold seems kinda weird but also super cool. I definitely liked him more seeing videos of him on YouTube after this than I did during this film.  I starting this thinking I’d like to one day try doing this to very quickly developing a lifelong fear of heights.  The intensity of the actual climb was something you can’t get from any other film. You’re watching a real person doing something insane, knowing how easy it is for them to die. It feels like your up there with him and it’s a cool experience watching.  The film was a bit long, I didn’t really need to see him but a fridge, but it was interesting seeing what goes through someone’s head when they do something like this and how it affects their personal life. I think they set it up well explaining the intricacies of the mountain to make the actual climb feel more intense when he does the hard parts.  Definitely an interesting film. I’m still on YouTube watching videos of him and Magnus Mibto.  Stunning visuals.  7.0/10
