Sonic the Hedgehog 2 2022

ReWatching sonic 2 alone in the cinema. I have work in a couple hours and I work in the cinema so they stuck it on for me, I’ve already reviewed it but I’m just gonna write a more in depth review as I watch the film considering there’s no one else here.  Sonic kinda feels like it’s tryna make him funny like Spider-Man but it really doesn’t work, maybe because it’s a kids film. The superhero stuff at the start was kinda boring and feels forced.  Egg man is actually kinda cringy, it’s bearable because it’s Jim Carrey but if it was any other actor he would be the worst part of the film.  Kinda feels weird how they dump these new characters in and the chaos emerald stuff in all at once so close to the start of the film, a lot to process at once and I feel like it makes the chaos emerald stuff seem cheesy or unbelievable.  I think I’ve been acting like this isn’t a kids film coz it’s sonic and I love it but a lot of the jokes are very childish. Especially from sonic and egg man. Knuckles becomes the best character pretty early on. His naivety paired with Idris Elba’s voice is amazing and I love it. “Earth is my turf g, if you don’t know how to floss you’ll be lost without me” one of the cringiest lines I’ve ever heard and it almost made me dislike Jim Carrey.  I kinda don’t like this other police guy I don’t think he’s that funny and he’s quite weird.  Longclaw and sonics relationship is really cool and interesting but I think it needed developing more. She was in it in just the short flashbacks and then it adds in these emotional moments when sonic thinks back to her and I think if they were in the film a lot longer it would have made a lot of this way more effective. Like if she got a way longer segment in the first film it would have made this film a lot better as we’d have a reason to care about sonic helping longclaw by finding the chaos emeralds. I feel like it keeps mentioning her but glosses over it every time never really giving us a real reason to give a shit other than the fact it’s sonics backstory character. I fckin love knuckles.  I like that this film becomes about how they want sonic to make friends his own age and then we get tails and knuckles who are both CGI characters just like him. Just like the first one this is a pretty nice film about friendship.  Kinda creepy that tails has just been watching everything this whole time.  “Dot dot dot dot dot dot”  I fckin love knuckles. x3 “Tiny magic hedgehog destroyed”  Genuinely the best part of this whole film is how perfect they managed to get knuckles. It makes me excited to see other films just so I can see knuckles again. I fuckin love knuckles x4 Feels a bit too similar to the bar fight in the first film but I think this one is a lot worse. The time in a bottle scene was pretty good in the first film but in this one it’s kinda childish. There’s a dance fight and they are terrible but suddenly become way too good considering how bad they were before. In all the scene is just kinda boring. Honestly really weird how they got amazing at dancing just coz they changed the song. You can’t even say it’s because tails is copying his moves, he isn’t looking at sonic, he just got weirdly good coz it suited the story.  You know I don’t mind tails. They don’t nail him as well as they do knuckles, but their friendship is still super wholesome. His character development feels kinda forced at this point but it’s still wholesome.  “Like Vin Diesel and the rock” lol Sonic needs to take better care of these rings man isn’t there like a finite number of these extremely valuable and useful items, yet he’s always losing them. Maybe invest in a better bag.  “We both lost everything that day” Like I said before that short little flashback would have been more emotional if they went in more detail for the flashback in the last film. It also could I have helped set up knuckles character way better and made sonic and knuckles connection more interesting. Look at them with a perfect face time signal, I can’t even get that good signal In my house. All this wedding stuff is extremely awkward. The punch was unnecessary and if it wasn’t for what happens after he would have completely ruined the wedding.  This weird twist of everyone at wedding being undercover is extremely weird and unbelievable. I really disliked it, how’d they know sonic was going to show up, also that’s genuinely an evil thing to do to his fiancé. Really really dumb and I really don’t find this general guy who likes Olive Garden funny.  The stuff with her sister wanting to murder her fiancé is kinda funny but I really don’t like any of this wedding stuff. It’s super unrealistic and unbelievable and takes away from the film. Also how the fuck does the chaos emerald just happen to be the island next to where the wedding was happening I found that super weird.  I think egg man is actually pretty bad. I like his new look but he’s really just not funny.  The knuckles and sonic fight is actually pretty cool.  When knuckles and sonic start becoming friends I start to love this film. I fckn love knuckles x5 Also not to add to much to the knuckles stuff but the Scene on the plane was great. Honestly this would just be better if it was a knuckles film. x6 This is like like the first avengers film in the battle of New York but better.  Super wholesome Ohana moment (o hana means family and family means nobody gets left behind) Super sonic is one of the most epic film moments of all time.  Knuckles picking up tails and putting him in his shoulder and then talking bout sprinkles honesty made my day. I start work now so I can’t actually finish the film but Ima log it and count it since there’s not much left. But the ending was the most wholesome thing ever, knuckles is genuinely amazing and though the dad moment is kinda weird I loved it. Also I fckn love knuckles. x7. The ending after the baseball game is the best scene in the whole thing. Also SUPER SONIC AND SHADOW! So fuckin cool. I Fr just pretty much wrote an essay about sonic 2. 7.5/10
