Host 2020

Host was really cool. From what I remember about unfriended it had more of a story to it, but host was better in just about every other way. Some very cool deaths, well edited film. It was structured very well and it was quite short which was good as it didn’t need to be any longer at all, it was simple short and scary, I enjoyed.  The fact that people continued to film stuff even when they were the only living person left on the call didn’t really make much sense but it’s not a big enough thing for me to take issue with. The jump scares were really good, I watched it on my pc so it would feel more real.  I don’t understand why Gemma would go to her friends house in the end, it was the height of lockdown, how irresponsible. But seriously she escaped the danger yet she some reason showed up at the end at someone else’s house that had a demon, maybe I missed something but that didn’t make sense, definitely not worth risking Covid for.  Crazy that Covid was a thing, you forget sometimes I think but wow that actually happened. Very inspiring that we still managed to make art in that time without leaving the house and seeing each other. I think host comes in for my top 5 favourite pieces of media made in quarantine along with,  1. Staged - David tennant zoom show  2. Inside - bo burnam special  3. The mythic quest quarantine episode - rob maclehenny show 4. Host  I don’t have a fifth, I’m sure there’s another one somewhere.  Maybe Borat subsequent movie film  Anyway good movie, a bit simplistic, but that was part of its charm, very cool that it was made during covid. Good acting, felt very real.  8 days into this month and I’ve fully gone from hating horror films to loving them.  7.9/10
