Film Roll 001

Film photography is cool. It’s an expensive hobby, and it’s impractical, but I love it. The feeling you get when you're sitting waiting for your photos to come out, and the relief you feel when 90% of them aren’t blocked by your thumb or completely black. It’s a lot of fun.
The look you get from them is just cool. I like how you really have to think about each photo you take. With digital photos, I feel like every time I go out with my camera I end up taking 100s of photos. Sorting through them afterwards, having to pick which ones are best and which ones are worth editing or posting online. Deleting photos you think are actually ok because you've already got 10 photos just like it. It all becomes very difficult and a little boring. I still haven't edited or posted a single digital photo from when these film ones were taken, because I took so many I am dreading it, even though I feel like I took some of the best ones I have ever taken.
Just having 30 photos max and having to just deal with whatever you managed to get is a great feeling, I love it when you get the perfect photo opportunity and you take the picture. The satisfying click of the camera, knowing you’ll have to wait ages to see it, but knowing how great it will feel if it comes out exactly how you pictured it.
A while ago, I bought a disposable camera and brought it on holiday with me. I was going to Leipzig to watch Crystal Palace play in the conference league final and I thought why not give it a go. I had been really into photography and the last holiday I went on, my friend Luke bought a film camera with him and I really loved the photos he got.
I loved the feeling of having a disposable camera. Just having it in my pocket at all times, ready to go at any moment. The fact you are getting such great photos on this shitty little plastic camera that has no settings and no focus. It just makes it feel so much better when the photos come out well.
I do like a lot of these photographs. It was my first experience with film photography, and I feel like the fact they came out so well is what made me enjoy it so much. I’d guess that if they had all blocked by my thumb my experience would have been very different.
I have 39 photos and if I did the maths I probably paid like £1 per photo. I thought this would be a nice place to dump them all, maybe talk about them a little. Even the shit ones.
Every time I get film developed, I’ll put every photo on here and talk about all the photo’s, giving you a pure and honest look at my experiences. My favourite thing about film photography is you can’t go back and change the pictures after you take them. So here they are, every single one, as they came.

So I started this journey in Prague. I stayed there for a week alone while I waited for the game. It's a beautiful city and I really loved walking around it, staring in awe of all the old buildings. I do like this photo a lot, I feel like it really captured the feeling of walking through endless streets like this and it's a nice reminder of it.
